Pop-Archeo Lab

The Education Department and its Outreach Laboratory conduct ongoing research in the field of heritage outreach. They design and lead tour programs tailored to all audiences so that everyone can engage with their cultural heritage in their own way.

The Préhistomuseum has an outreach laboratory that conducts research and evaluations in the field of heritage outreach, as well as an education department that designs and develops the museum’s educational programs. Together, their goal is to provide each visitor with the right tools and resources needed to reconnect with their heritage and history in a personalized way. More broadly, this department seeks to make the visitor an active participant in their own learning by encouraging them to reflect on humanity, on relationships with others, and on the relationship between humans and nature, across time and space. Prehistory provides a particularly fertile ground for this.
Drawing on the expertise of the outreach lab, the education department designs tour programs and continuing education modules for teachers and museum professionals, develops and publishes educational resources, and creates visitor support tools for our permanent exhibits and temporary exhibitions.

The objectives of this research and development unit are:

  1. To create outreach programs tailored to the Museum’s collection and suited to its diverse audiences
  2. To experiment with new outreach programs
  3. To evaluate the programs implemented and make any necessary adjustments
  4. To continually refine the Museum’s code of ethics for outreach
  5. To provide ongoing training for the Museum’s cultural and scientific educators
  6. To explore new media, new approaches, and new methods of education
  7. To collaborate with external partners
  8. To disseminate the results of its experiments and research
